Lesson Objective:
Students will use the engineering design process to design, build, and test a model parachute that successfully increases air resistance (a form of unbalanced force) to slow the descent of a "smokejumper figure" and deliver a piece of "sensitive cargo" safely to the ground.
Standards Addressed:
NGSS Engineering 3-5-ETS1-1
NGSS Physical Science 3-PS2-1
CCC ELA R.I. K-5

Lesson Objective: Students will be able to model the water cycle using a closed system and identify the location and changes of water (liquid ↔ gas) to explain the journey of a particle in the atmosphere.
Standards Addressed:

Lesson Objective: Students will use data from comparative experiments to explain how water causes erosion and to design an effective, evidence-based solution to mitigate the effects of that erosion.
